The highlight of the Hambleton social calendar is our complimentary owners’ race day, held in Doncaster's Royal Box on the final day of the British turf season.
The day once again proved a big success on Saturday with a significant sum raised for charity and Hambleton’s owners enjoying a great day from the best seats in the house in Doncaster’s Royal Box, located alongside the winning post on the top level of the impressive main stand.

Owners enjoyed some excellent catering and the great atmosphere whilst benefitting from unrivalled views of the day’s racing, with the added excitement of watching Paul Hanagan crowned champion jockey for the second year running.
Once owners had assembled in the Royal Box Channel 4’s Mike Cattermole, and Hambleton’s own Simon Turner took owners through the racing action, but neither proved as successful as Untold Melody‘s owner David, who posted a fine effort in our Racing Welfare tipping challenge, though more on that later.

Hambleton have always supported racing charities and this year we were doing our best to raise funds for Racing Welfare, a charity that does an enormous amount for those who suffer ill fortune behind the scenes in racing.
Mike Cattermole is a trustee of the charity and told guests a little more about Racing Welfare before auctioning two rare, signed pictures to raise funds.

Hambleton’s owners seemingly never fail to give generously and David, an owner in Tahnee Mara, pictured above with Mike Cattermole, typified that by bidding £300 for a signed print of Jamie Spencer and A P McCoy schooling together.
Keith and Jenny, owners in Waking Warrior, pictured below, also gave generously to secure two signed prints of Amadeus Wolf’s Gimcrack success to ensure an impressive £550 was raised by the auction.

The quality of the complimentary catering was excellent and very well received as owners relaxed, enjoyed the racing and looked back at the highs and lows of 2011, and of course looked forward to what promises to be a very exciting 2012.
Through the afternoon a great atmosphere developed as new and old owners got acquainted in an informal and fun environment in which new friendships were formed and old friendships developed. It was great to see so many new faces getting to know some of our old friends as some owners got their first taste of how Hambleton like to do things.

Before the final race of the day Caroline reminded owners not to forget their Hambleton ‘goody’ bags which this year contained some chocolates and a Hambleton Racing mug.
After the final race had been run, the Hambleton team set to work totting up the scores in the Racing Welfare tipping challenge, which asked owners to select a horse in each of the eight races, the winner to be the owner who returned the best level stake profit, which Hambleton would multiply by five for the benefit of Racing Welfare.

Top marks, a bottle of whiskey and box of chocolates went to David, an owner in Untold Melody, who found five winners and an incredible 47.5 point level stake profit on the day - fine tipping by any standards.
That tipping was enough to earn Racing Welfare £237 by the rules of the challenge which Hambleton Racing increased to ensure an extra £475 was raised.
Throughout the afternoon owners donated generously into our Racing Welfare bucket, pushing the total raised to an impressive £1,500
After that announcement owners, many of whom who were staying close to the racecourse, relaxed for a hour or so after racing as some firm friends looked back on a very enjoyable afternoon.
On behalf of Hambleton Racing we’d like to say a big thank you to all owners, not only for all the kind words about the day but also for helping make the day the success it was.
