The result of the inaugural Hambleton Racing 5 To Follow competition is in with the plaudits, and a free bet of £150, going to Simon, an owner in Shifting Gold and the two-year-old colt by Johannesburg.

Simon took the competition by the scruff of the neck over Cheltenham, scoring heavily via Tidal Bay's Arkle win (57 points) and Katchit's (57) success in the Champion Hurdle before a a 1-2 in the Gold Cup earned the winner another 62 points to cement his lead at the top of the leaderboard.

Scoring was much lighter at Aintree but Simon never looked likely to relinquish his grip on the competition and added further points when Tidal Bay went in again for him in the Maghull Novices' Chase before the Grand National.

That success only ensured Simon grabbed the March monthly prize of £25 to take his free bet winnings in the competition to the £200 mark.

Finishing a very good runner-up was another previous monthly prize winner, Derek, an owner in Orpenella, Tugalu and the two-year-old by Johannesburg, who amassed an impressive 372 points and receives a free bet £75 from Better.

Third place in the 5 To Follow went to Mike, an owner in Shifting Gold, who receives a free bet of £25 for third place to go with his previous monthly winnings of £50.
