Brilliant sunshine greeted owners at Hambleton on a warm July Saturday morning as the owners of the grey two-year-old by Sleeping Indian gathered to name their horse.
Owners initially met at the Hambleton Inn, opened specially for the morning, where they enjoyed tea and coffee before heading off to the gallops to see their young horse in action.

The imposing two-year-old, soon to be named Lightning Cloud, looked in fine order as he completed a fast canter under Steven Craine under the watchful gaze of his owners.
After impressing his owners with his athleticism, Lightning Cloud then proved the most genteel and willing participant in his naming day photo shoot as his owners entered the yard to see him up close and personal.

He posed in a patient and relaxed manner as Hambleton photographer Keith Robinson took those all-important complimentary naming day pictures before owners headed off to see their other horses in the yard.
From the yard, owners headed back into the pub for a sumptuous lunch at the award-winning Hambleton Inn. With so many of the syndicate already owners in other horses with Hambleton the atmosphere was as lively as ever on a typically enjoyable day at the Hambleton Inn.

After lunch landlord Paul Cooper announced the name of Lightning Cloud to a champagne toast with the name very well received by his owners.
With the weather great and Lightning Cloud looking in great form, Saturday’s all-complimentary naming day really was an occasion to remember for all.
Given he is expected to make his debut in the next four to six weeks, some more special days could be just around the corner!
