With just over five weeks to go to the start of the Cheltenham Festival the anticipation towards the biggest jumping meeting of the year is palpably growing.
Hambleton’s flat orientated string may not be involved but we can bring you the opportunity to have your card marked for Cheltenham, and support a worthwhile charity in the process.
Racing Welfare is a charity close to our hearts. The excellent charity supports the unsung heroes of our fantastic industry, regularly helping those people within the industry who face adversity.
As diary regulars may remember Hambleton owner Anne, an owner in Waking Warrior and several other horses over the years, has been supporting Racing Welfare for some time, with her walk of the Great Wall of China typical of her drive to raise much-needed funds for Racing Welfare.
Last year Anne put lots of time and effort into a Charity Cheltenham Preview Night, which proved a real success with lots of winners found for the guests and some much-needed funds raised for Racing Welfare.
The good news is Anne is once again organising the event that will be held on Friday, 2nd March at Richmond Comrades Club.
The event kicks off at 7.30pm with a quality panel assembled to guide guests through the four days of the Prestbury Park action.
Top National Hunt trainer Ferdy Murphy retains his position on the panel and will once again be well represented at Cheltenham, a meeting he has enjoyed some big winners at over the years. Ferdy did a great job for those present last year, tipping up Divers at odds of around 20/1. He has assembled another good squad for 2012 and guests will once again receive first hand news on his plans and hopes.
Asking the questions and chairing the evening will once again be Northern racing legend Bill Warby, who is sure to keep the crowd amused as well as asking the searching questions we all want answered.
Adding professional analysis to panel is one of the best judges in the National Hunt game, Andy Gibson. Andy’s analysis looks beyond the obvious and invariably throws up some big priced winners as those who follow him on Attheraces can testify. Andy was on the panel last year and did really well finding a few big priced winners for those present.
Also on the panel will be well connected bookmaker George Richardson of GR Racing, who will be giving the layers perspective while Anne has also secured a leading Nothern jockey to sit on the panel, though his identity will not be confirmed till closer to evening.
Admission for the event costs just £10 and includes a buffet supper. Tickets are available from the Richmond Comrades Club or from directly from Anne who can be contacted on 0789 503 0353 or via anne.jm@tesco.net.
The event is almost certain to be a sell out so secure your tickets early for what promises to be one of the most entertaining and best value racing nights out this year.
