Having landed a win with Bapak Chinta in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, Kevin secured yet more success in another Group 2 race at a big festival meeting at Goodwood on Thursday.
The horse responsible for Kevin’s glory was Masamah. He made virtually all in The King George Stakes over five furlongs on the Sussex Downs to achieve his sixth win for Kevin. In the face of competition for the lead, the horse impressed in holding off late challenges. We’ve seen continued improvement from the horse and with yet more expected from him a tilt at the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at yet another festival meeting at York could be on the agenda.

Kevin has also talked of having a crack at the Prix De L’Abbaye at Longchamp on Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe day at the end of the season. This is a race that has seen Kevin be victorious before, when he landed it with Desert Lord five years ago. The horse had a similar profile to that of Masamah and both are testament to Kevin’s talents, with their time at the Hambleton stable seeing both improve out of handicaps to go on and land Group races.
Masamah is one in a long line of cheaply bought horses upon whom the Hambleton maestro has worked his magic. Kevin’s success with cheaper bought yearlings is well documented, but the same can be applied to the older horses as well. The £30,000 price tag claimed by Masamah on his purchase is a small sum in the light of his achievements and the prize money he has so far accumulated.
Kevin’s skill in improving horses and getting them back up to their best is second to none. It is this skill, coupled with the diligence of the Hambleton Racing team in purchasing the right horse at the right price that has led to much success over the years.
Our track record at Hambleton Racing is one we are very proud of: every horse we've bought at the Horses in Training Sales up has gone on to win with this year's two-time winner Red Kestrel, pictured below, who placed at Ascot on his latest run, the latest horse to flourish in Kevin's care.
We're very much looking forward to this October's Horses In Training Sales, when our team will be aiming to find another horse for Kevin to work his magic on.
