Mappin provides Timely boost for DBS purchase

01/09/10

By definition horses pedigrees are always evolving. Every time a purchase is made from the sales there is the prospect of a purchase looking better or worse as the immediate relatives strut their stuff on the racecourse.

This is especially relevant when buying an unraced horse, the factor being accentuated further when there are only one or two siblings of any purchase racing at the moment.

With that in mind Tuesday was particularly satisfying for those owners who have taken a share in our DBS Premier recruit by Oratorio as the filly's half-brother Mappin Time took a couple of notable scalps when posting a career best effort at Ripon, where he earned a Racing Post Rating of 90.

A tough, pacy two-year-old, Mappin Time, who had already finished fourth in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury earlier in the year, took some notable scalps including that of the Group-placed Choose Wisely and the hatrick-seeking Jameela Girl, to whom he was conceding half a stone.

His half-sister, whom we were keeping close tabs on for a while before the sales, has always shown herself to have an excellent temperament, very much in keeping with her older sibling Mappin Time, who showed a fine attitude under pressure to win at Ripon.

Given Mappin Time is the only previous foal to have raced out of Different Story, the performance and win was a very welcome boost for his sister's pedigree. Thank goodness the sales were last week and not this!
