Kevin’s ability at improving horses from elsewhere is almost taken for granted given the regularity of his achievements with such recruits.
Nevertheless, the quick transformation of Masamah from handicapper to Listed winner has to be worth a special mention.
The four-year-old, a 30,000gns purchase out of last year’s Horses In Training sale, has gone from strength to strength since arriving at Hambleton, scoring on his debut at Chester’s May meeting before going on to have a summer to remember.

The son of Exceed And Excel landed a big pot at Ascot last weekend when showing a great attitude under pressure to see off a huge field and bettered that level at Chester on the first day of August when making all the running to take the Listed Queensferry Stakes under Paul Hanagan.
Of course, as those familiar with Group 1 winner Desert Lord will know, Kevin has taken seemingly exposed handicappers to the very top before and it would be know surprise to see Masamah, who was providing Kevin with his fourth Listed winner of 2010 at Chester, stepping up in grade from here.
