Kevin enjoyed yet another red letter day on Saturday when Our Jonathan’s Ayr Gold Cup win provided the highlight of a fine across-the-card treble.
The four-year-old’s win means Kevin has now won one of Europe’s most prestigious sprint handicaps twice in the last five years, a fine achievement by any standards.
The 11-1 winner, drawn in stall 12, raced with the group on the far side of the track and picked up well to when asked to quickly put a decisive seal on the race.
A Group 2 winner in France as a juvenile in 2009, Our Jonathan, produced a career best effort in success on Saturday, taking his earnings since being switched from his previous trainer to Kevin to over £285,000.
"He's been running well all year but in the last ten days he's really sparkled.”
“He was a Group horse as a two-year-old and you don't lose that ability, I’m delighted."
With Zakreet taking the first race on Ayr’s card and Murara posting a personal best effort on just his second start for Kevin down at Newmarket, Saturday proved another great day for the Hambleton trainer.
The success of Our Jonathan and Murara provides a timely reminder on Kevin’s incredible record of improving horses from elsewhere - something we’ll be aiming to exploit for our owners with our next horses in training syndicate.
