Racing on Ebor Ladies Day

19/08/10

Thursday proved both an exciting and slightly frustrating day at York's Ebor meeting with the weather, ground and a little luck in running all factors on an exciting and ultimately rewarding day's racing for Shoshoni Wind's owners.

For Waking Warrior's owners there was frustration as the ground, which was predicted to be ideal over the weekend, dried out a little too much for the talented son of Sleeping Indian to safely take his chance.

That said, owners enjoyed racing in York's owners and trainers facility, upgraded to great acclaim at the start of the year, at one of the most prestigious race meetings of the year - Ebor Ladies Day.

Shoshoni Wind, turned out in superb condition, did her owners proud, posting another decent effort as she bagged a further seven-and-a-half thousand pounds by finishing seventh in the opener.

The filly, who has taken her owners to Ascot, Newbury, Newmarket and York amongst other tracks this year, travelled very well through the race but had little daylight to work with as the race developed.

She showed plenty of ability to overcome the interference and ran on under a mainly hand ride to take seventh place, and might well have finished fourth or fifth with the rub of the green.

Shoshoni didn't have a hard race and will now head to Ayr for the Group 3 Firth of Clyde Stakes at the Western meeting while Waking Warrior may be out as soon as next weekend.

As so often is the case we recevied several kind emails and comments following the day with Waking Warrior's owners contributing "As usual, we enjoyed our day at York and look forward to you finding some soft ground" and "A great day's racing, I was very relieved our horse wasn't risked on ground that was too fast."

One of Shoshoni Wind's owners had similar comments to offer "We have just lived our dream by having a runner at the Ebor meeting, what a fantastic experience and day."

Such comments reflect what a great bunch of individuals are involved as owners with Hambleton which makes campaigning the horses so exciting and social.

Here's hoping next week's new recruits from the DBS Premier Yearling Sales can do their owners proud and take them to the Ascot of the North for the Ebor meeting in 2011.
