The weather may be starting to close in slightly but Kevin reports himself delighted with the progress of the yearlings, who are ‘as far forward as they ever have been.’
Kevin explained that the mild autumn has allowed the team to get plenty of condition-building canters into the young horses ahead of the excitement of their first year racing.
The young horses certainly hit the ground running last year, with Hamza winning the first turf two-year-old of the year at Musselburgh. Since then a further 24 individual two-year-olds have won for Kevin and all the signs are very positive for next year’s young horses.
Our colt by Red Clubs, a half-brother to last year’s first two-year-old winner Redair, was amongst the first yearlings to be broken in and Kevin has been very pleased with both his mental and physical progress since coming into training.
The real excitement starts next year as Kevin begins to prepare him for the new turf season , something all his owners are very much looking forward to.
He’s pictured below (near side) behind his lead horse, returning from exercise under Amy Ryan, and looks a horse to look forward to for 2012.
