A new chapter is our success story with Archie Watson begins this year with our first National Hunt horses together and Archie is confident he can replicate the huge success we've enjoyed together on the Flat.

We couldn't have made a better start to our jumping association as our first runner, Alazwar, made an impressive winning debut at Huntingdon in October and now has a Listed bumper at Cheltenham in his sights.

Archie's record with his few jump runners to date is impressive with Archie saddling just five cheaply bought horses under National Hunt rules. Four of the five have been successful with an overall strike rate of a massive 25%.

To put that into context, only one of the leading 50 jumps trainers last season matched that strike rate - champion trainer Paul Nicholls.

Archie has acquired us this lovely prospect from the point-to-point field, who shaped with bags of promise on his one and only run between the flags.

Grove Road is a very well bred horse being by last season's champion Point-to-Point sire Mahler, a top-class son of the outstanding Galileo. He's the first foal of very well bred dam that's a full sister to a Grade 2 winner. In short, his pedigree says he could be anything.

The imposing chestnut stayed on well on his one and only start to date, keeping on to take third place from an unpromising position.

It's particularly noteworthy his point-to-point handler hadn't trained a winner for four years.

Archie has a fantastic record when buying from the in-training sales, finding top-class Group horses like Glen Shiel and Outbox for our owners and feels he's unearthed another gem in Grove Road.

Archie reports Grove Road has made a huge physical improvement since his purchase in May and feels he has further progress to come too as he develops into his impressive frame.

Grove Road sailed through his pre-training with the legendary Henrietta Knight, who felt he was an excellent jumper and a very natural athlete. A video of Grove Road in the loose school at Hen's appears below.

Archie has been delighted with everything Grove Road has done since coming into full training and says he's a hardy horse who's taking his work very well.

He worked well recently and at this stage, Archie is working towards having him ready to make his racecourse debut in a bumper during November.
