Archie Watson to train for HR
8th November 2018
We’re delighted to confirm Archie Watson will be training for Hambleton Racing in 2019.
The young trainer has had a superb start to his career, displaying a happy knack of both being able to both improve horses that are sent to him and achieve brilliant results with his youngsters.
In his first full year training Archie bagged a half century of winners - a fine achievement few other trainers have managed so early in their careers.
This year the question was could the former assistant to William Haggas back those results up. Anyone doubtful soon had their answer.
Saddling lots of winners from the start of the year, Archie has gone on to achieve some amazing results, and his now on the verge of a maiden century of winners in just his second full year with a licence.
To date the master of Saxon Gate stables has saddled 96 winners in 2018 and it has long since appeared a question of when , rather than if, Archie will saddle his maiden century of winners this year.
Add in the fact Archie’s strike rate with his two-year-olds is better than the likes of Aidan O’Brien, John Gosden and Richard Hannon and we begin to see a very clear picture of a talented young trainer destined for the top of his profession.
Achieving such results on a modest budget relative to those mentioned is quite something, as are the big race wins Archie has already enjoyed with his two-year-olds.
Soldiers Call, a winner at Royal Ascot and in the Group 3 Flying Childers at the St. Leger meeting, is the latest youngster Archie has saddled to big race success while his other selective runners at Group level have performed very, very well.
Archie and his bloodstock team have an uncanny knack of finding good horses on a modest budget and we can’t wait to get working with the Lambourn trainer.
Archie has sourced us two stunning yearlings for next year. More details can be found on Archie's Available Horses page.
