Archie Watson’s two-year-olds

24th March 2019

With the Flat season just days away there is a real buzz around our Flat yards at the moment, and none more so than at Archie Watson’s.

2019 will be our first year with horses with Archie and visiting the yard last week our owners were very impressed with the excellent facilities on offer and enthusiasm emanating from the young team at Saxon Gate.

We have a pair of two-year-olds to enjoy with Archie this year. Moorland Spirit, a daughter of Kyllachy, was typically well bought by Archie as a yearling.

She’s a half-sister to Dandhu, who finished runner-up at Group 2 level last year and is a live outsider for the 1000 Guineas itself.

Moorland Spirit herself has a look of quality about her and at this stage is being prepared to start in six-furlong races by Archie.

Our other horse with Archie, a colt by Footstepsinthesand, will get his racing name on April 13th when his owners get together to name their horse at Archie’s stables in Lambourn before heading off for lunch locally at the Queen’s Arms.

The ever-popular mornings offer owners the chance to meet one another before they go racing together and also the chance to get up close and personal with their horse.

The Footstepsinthesand colt has a real look of quality about him and has developed into a most imposing individual this year.

He’s recently been entered for the £300,000 Weatherbys sales race at Doncaster’s St. Leger meeting by Archie, who sees the colt as a mid-season type who is likely to flourish over seven furlongs in time.

It’s not too late to have a share with Archie as although Moorland Spirit is fully syndicated, we do have one share left in the Footstepsinthesand colt.

More details about him are available on Archie’s Available Horses page.
