Archie’s Owners’ Day

Wednesday saw us enjoy this year’s annual Owners’ Day at Archie Watson’s stables as owners gathered at Archie’s Saxon Gate stables in Lambourn.

On a clear September morning, owners initially met at the nearby Queens Arms for warm drinks ahead of heading up the Lambourn gallops to see a big team of horses in action.

As owners enjoyed refreshments at the Queens, some old friends caught up with one another and new acquaintances were made as owners chatted with the Hambleton team ahead of seeing the horses strut their stuff on the picturesque Lambourn gallops.

The anticipation was building as owners were driven to the gallops to watch a large number of the Hambleton team in action on the gallops, including recent Group 3 winner Tempus.

With owners in place, the horses came past the gallery with Archie on hand to highlight each horse as they exercised. Soon after Archie talked owners through the horses, displaying an in-depth knowledge about each horse and their development.

With the gallops action complete, the horses headed back to down to the stables where owners were welcome to move around Archie’s facilities and see their horses relaxing back in their stables after morning exercise.

Archie took owners through our exciting new National Hunt recruits with both Punchestown winner Chosen Hero and Spot Of Bother catching the eye of many as Archie introduced these exciting horses to owners.

Spot Of Bother, the striking grey pictured in the gallery, impressed many, as did Chosen Hero, a filly with a share or two left remaining, who recently added Henrietta Knight to her growing list of admirers.

To date every single National Hunt horse we’ve had with Archie has won and Archie is confident we have two more quality prospects that can take us to some nice tracks this winter.

After enjoying some time at the stables, owners were driven back to the Queen’s Arms to enjoy lunch and look back on a thoroughly enjoyable morning seeing the horses at Archie’s.

The delicious lunch was much appreciated by all as talk turned to the many winners we’ve enjoyed already this year with Archie, and of course the many winners we’re looking forward to for the rest of the year!

The Archie Watson Owners’ Day offered us the chance to show some new owners how Hambleton like to do things and catch up with many existing friends who’ve enjoyed their ownership with us for many years too.

The day proved a really enjoyable social occasion and one that is fast becoming a favourite in our social calendar.
