Al Zaraqaan wins Newton Abbot

Archie’s perfect Jumps record

22nd August 2022

Our National Hunt results with Archie Watson continue to enjoy outstanding results, with Al Zaraqaan our latest horse to win and maintain Archie’s perfect jumps record for our owners.

The son of Golden Horn, an imposing horse recruited off the Flat by Archie, made the perfect handicap debut when making much of the running before keeping on well to readily gain his first success over hurdles.

Prominent from an early stage under Nick Schofield, Al Zaraqaan took up the running after the second flight and never saw another rival as he jumped well for a novice, despite showing obvious signs of inexperience at times.

Turning away from the back straight Al Zaraqaan had all his rivals at work in behind and never looked in much danger as he came home to record his first win over hurdles after being in the prize money on his first two starts.

Al Zaraqaan is the fourth Hambleton horse to race under National Hunt rules with Archie and the fourth winner too, maintaining Archie’s perfect jumps record for horse racing syndicates.

We’ve recruited another couple of very interesting ex-pointers alongside Archie this year in the shape of Chosen Hero and Spot Of Bother with both horses delighting those close to them through the summer.

If their physical progress and form are any guide, there would appear a great chance that the pair can further enhance our outstanding jumps record with Archie during the upcoming Winter season.

Looking ahead, Archie is very much looking forward to seeing Al Zaraqaan back over hurdles next month as he bids to follow up this success in another handicap hurdle.
