Winning owners of Kodiak Breeze in the winners enclosure with their horse.

Bargain buy Breezes in for Kevin

There were some great scenes at Redcar yesterday as Kodiak Breeze made his second outing a winning one for the Kevin Ryan team.

Bought for just £18,000 from the Goffs Premier Sale as a yearling last year, the son of Kodi Bear had made a most promising debut when runner-up at Thirsk last month and built on that effort in no uncertain terms on his second start, running right away from his 14 rivals to record a decisive win.

Kevin Ryan’s £18,000 buy shows class

The bargain buy was not lacking for support on this second start, with many of his horse racing syndicate present to see how their lad could progress from his first run.

Jumping well from the stalls, jockey Shane Gray soon had Kodiak Breeze well positioned towards the head of affairs.

As the race progressed Shane appeared to have plenty of horse underneath him and despite running green on the fast ground, he soon put his seal on the race, staying on strongly to put over three lengths between himself and the chasing pack.

Syndicate owners celebrate Redcar success

Walking into the winners enclosure Kodiak Breeze received a great reception from his horse racing syndicate who revelled in the moment of seeing their horse produce such a taking performance on just his second racecourse outing.

After Shane Gray had updated owners about how their horse had sealed his impressive win it was then on to the winners room to watch the winning replay and enjoy a glass of champagne to relive the moment.

Quality bloodlines suggest more to come

He may have been a bargain purchase but given he’s from the family of the classy race mare Spacious there’s certainly plenty of quality in Kodiak Breeze’s pedigree.

A horse with plenty of substance, he could hardly have a made a more promising start to his career and it will be fascinating to see how he can progress from here.

This latest success with a cheaply bought horse with Kevin Ryan highlights why so many owners put their faith in Hambleton’s buying team when deciding to buy racehorse shares.

We look forward to seeing what Kevin has in mind next for this promising young horse.
