Breeze-up morning at Archie’s

1st July 2022

Our latest event in Upper Lambourn certainly went down a treat as owners arrived at Archie Watson’s impressive facilities to see their two-year-olds on our breeze-up morning at Archie’s.

A warm summer morning ensured owners could thoroughly enjoy watching the goings on around the yard and take in the beautiful surroundings, set within the famous Lambourn Downs.

Whilst owners gathered in the yard, they were treated to refreshments and baked treats as supplied by Tony and Angela from Bamboo Coffee.

Cappuccinos were the most popular order of the morning as owners soaked up the atmosphere ahead of heading to the gallops.

Owners were present to see Chriszoff, a lovely stamp of a horse by Zoffany, and Manitou a similarly big strong colt by Sioux Nation.

Bother horses impressed onlookers as they exercised in front of them, looking well-conditioned already since their arrival from the breeze-ups this spring.

As the horses walked back down the gallop to return to the yard, there was plenty of chance for owners to see them at close quarters and take a few pictures before heading back to the yard.

Manitou looked very much ready for action which is just as well as this quality colt holds an entry at Ffos Las on Monday, where he’s likely to make his debut for his horse racing syndicate.

Upon returning to the yard, Chriszoff and Manitou headed off to be washed down and groomed prior to those all-important complimentary naming day pictures for owners.

After lapping up the attention and posing for pictures, the horses returned to their stables to enjoy their well-deserved lunch whilst the syndicate headed off to the nearby Pheasant, for drinks and a delicious two-course lunch.

The fantastic lunch was well-received by all and shortly after Davina took centre stage to confirm the results of the naming vote.

Owners toasted Chriszoff and Manitou with champagne while the owners who selected the successful names, Frank and Tony, both new owners to us this year, will soon be receiving their prize champagne in recognition of their efforts.

With Chriszoff and Manitou being so relaxed to be around and plenty of good conversation and laughter throughout the day, Wednesday’s all-complimentary naming event proved a most enjoyable day for all concerned.

As Manitou is taking his training so well at present, it’s likely he’ll be taking up his engagement at Ffos Las on Monday when he’ll become the first of this year’s breeze-up recruits to hit the track.

Needless to say, the excitement is building for all concerned!
