Champion Glen in great form

We’re delighted to say Saturday’s Champions Sprint hero Glen Shiel is in great form at Archie Watson’s Saxon Gate base in Lambourn.

Glen Shiel received a thoroughly deserved heroes welcome back to the yard on Saturday as he became Archie’s first Group 1 winner.

It was a very special moment for everyone involved in this great horse and especially for our head racing manager, Cosmo Charlton who was on course at Ascot to share the moment with Glen’s owners.

“Saturday was a day that will live long in the memory for us all. Our personal approach at Hambleton means I’m lucky enough to have known many of Glen Shiel’s owners for some time now and now regard them as friends. To see grown men in tears really brought it home what we’d achieved.”

We’ve been inundated with kind messages from across our owners which made Saturday all the more enjoyable.

On behalf of everyone at Hambleton we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been in touch to pass on their congratulations.

Our blue print has always been to buy at the more affordable end of the market and try and compete at the highest level possible. Saturday showed just what is possible and has only whetted out appetite to find more great horses for our owners to enjoy.

Of course, Glen Shiel is likely to be a big part of the next few years but after a hectic and successful year Group 1 Glen will be enjoying a quieter time of things now ahead of hopefully returning to contest some of the best sprint races in Europe again next year.
