Glen Shiel Champions Sprint Hambleton3

Champions Day – A Year On

10th October 2021

They say time flies when your having fun. It certainly does when you’re racing in Group 1 races. It’s hard to believe, but it’s now almost a year on from Glen Shiel’s famous Champions Sprint win.

Last year’s Champions Day was an incredible occasion at Ascot. Glen Shiel’s horse racing syndicate headed to Ascot having finished runner-up in the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup with their £45,000 recruit, dreaming of another massive run from their star horse.

The rest, as they say, is history. The irrepressible Hollie Doyle got Glen rolling from the start and just kept pouring on the pressure. In a pulsating finish, the pair held on in a tight photo-finish to land the Group 1 prize.

Whether it’s private visits to the stables or enjoying a winner at the races, there’s no doubt that owning a racehorse makes memories that last a lifetime, but this moment made a memory that dominated every day for Glen’s owners in the weeks and months after the famous victory.

It's hard to put into words the excitement of the moment but the video below offers a taste of the experience!

This year has been special too. A fantastic effort when second in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot ensured another big pay day for Glen’s syndicate as they came within a length of meeting the Queen on the biggest racing stage of all.

A fine effort in the July Cup at Newmarket in the sunshine and lunch with Haydock’s chairman have been other highlights of another hugely enjoyable year for Glen’s owners who are now eagerly looking forward to a return trip to Ascot to see Glen defend his crown.

Win, lose or draw, the Champions Sprint promises to be yet another special day for Glen Shiel’s owners on one of the best day’s Flat racing of the year.
