Churchella off the mark

27th September 2023

It was great to see Churchella get off the mark on her latest start on Tuesday, as she gained a decisive first success at Newcastle.

The daughter of Churchill is a well-bred filly who has taken a while to find her feet but judged on her last three starts, she is starting to get the hang of the racing game fast now.

David’ O’Meara’s stable jockey Danny Tudhope always looked to be going well aboard Churchella and when he asked his mount to go and win her race she quickly put ground between herself and the remainder to register a decisive first win for her horse racing syndicate.

The win built on a highly promising run when runner-up at Southwell and luckless recent run at Thirsk, where Churchella endured a notably tough trip but emerged with plenty of credit in adverse circumstances.

Those two good runs were recognised in the betting markets on Tuesday, with Churchella going off a well-backed 3-1 favourite. Her supporters barely had a concern under an excellent ride from Danny, who had fully three lengths in hand at the line.

Danny was quite taken with her performance and along with trainer David thinks there is much more to come from this filly now Churchella is off the mark and getting the hang of her racing.

That will be music to the ears of her owners who should have plenty of fun through the coming months with this filly.
