Doha delight for Maystar

20th December 2019

The rise and rise of Maystar shows no signs of stopping and the quality two-year-old gave his horse racing syndicate a day they’ll never forget when winning the prestigious Al Rayyan Stakes to provide Doha delight for Maystar and his owners.

The Al Rayyan Stakes is Qatar’s biggest two-year-old race of the year and it was a terrific buzz for his owners to have a horse good enough to be invited for such a big race. To win it was something else.

Having won a Fast-Track Qualifier well recently, Maystar arrived in Qatar in good form and trained well in the run up to the race.

Excitement for owners was at fever pitch as Hollie and Maystar entered the stalls ahead of the feature race on the card and the pair produced an effort to bring the house down.

Maystar has shown himself to be both a quality horse and game performer in his career to date and those qualities were very much in evidence as he fought hard for an early position during the frenetic early stages of the race.

The son of Mayson settled to track the leaders moving well from where Hollie kept the revs up, turning into the straight in second place before the pair ran on strongly all the way to the line repel Roses Stakes fourth Think Big and French Listed winner Happy Bere in the closing stages.

As you’d imagine, the heroic duo received a fine reception on the course as his horse racing syndicate owners welcomed Hollie and Maystar back off the track ahead of some memorable scenes in the winners’ enclosure.

There were evidently some great celebrations taking place around Britain too, as Maystar’s owners got in touch to say how they were celebrating the victory.

It’s an absolute delight to provide our owners with such a quality horse – this is what racehorse ownership is all about.

The win marks yet another fine achievement by trainer Archie Watson, who’s expert handling of Maystar has been a joy to behold.

Needless to say, with the Al Rayyan Stakes already providing Doha Delight for Maystar, there seems sure to be more exciting races to take in for him and his horse racing syndicate this winter. We can hardly wait!
