Easy Listed win for Washington
18th September 2023
There were some great scenes at Bro Park in Sweden yesterday after an easy Listed win for Washington Heights in Bro Park Sprint Championship.
The three-year-old has ran some mighty races this year in top end handicaps, chasing home this year’s July Cup winner Shaquille and finishing in the prize money in most of the top-end three-year-old sprint handicap races.
His form could hardly be working out better which made Kevin and our expert team think Washington was well worth returning to Listed level for this first time this year, and the decision proved a master stroke to the delight of his owners.
Always travelling well under Hollie Doyle, Washington was asked to go and win his race off the home turn and the response was immediate, as the pair strode majestically clear of their toiling rivals to claim the valuable prize.
Entering the closing stages Hollie was able to take things easy, yet Washington still had five lengths in hand at the line.
Having ran with great credit and earned notable prize money for his horse racing syndicate at Ascot, Newmarket and York this year, Washington has cemented his place in the team as a thoroughly genuine, quality horse, and one who Kevin believes will have more to offer again next year.
A mark of Kevin’s sprinters is how well they progress with age and Kevin’s masterful handling of this lad to date is ensuring Washington Heights is delivering on his considerable potential.
Yesterday’s Listed success took his career earnings to £165,175 – a fine return for a horse who joined us for just £24,000 from the Goffs Premier Yearling Sales.
Elsewhere on the card, our evergreen, globetrotting legend Outbox once again ran with huge credit at Bro Park, finishing runner-up in the Group 3 Stockholm Cup.
Making most of the running, Outbox had the majority of the field in trouble from the turn in and battled on bravely during the closing stages to fill the runner-up spot for the third year in succession.
Another bargain buy at just 16,000gns, the son of Frankel owes his owners nothing and is a huge credit the Archie Watson team who once again had him primed to run his heart out in Sweden.
Outbox’s excellent run capped a fantastic afternoon for our owners, who enjoyed some excellent hospitality from Sweden Gallop on a day to remember.
