Five weeks and counting

21st February 2019

It’s an exciting time at the moment, with many horses stepping up their workloads at home as the new Flat season draws closer.

The announcement of our Doncaster Owners’ Day and the first daffodils starting to emerge is always a sure sign the Flat is on the way back and it’s hard to believe there is now just five weeks till the new season is launched on Town Moor.

However, this year it’s not just on the Flat where we’ve exciting horses to look forward to as Hambleton have placed their first horses with top trainer Gordon Elliott.

Gordon sourced us the fantastically named Whoshotthesheriff last year and the five-year-old looks very well bought now and a fine prospect for the rest of his career.

The Sheriff has finished first and second on his two starts since joining us and is now being trained with the Grade 2 £50,000 Premier Hurdle at Kelso next Saturday in mind.

Gordon feels Whoshotthesheriff is a talented horse well worth his place in an illustrious race such as this which is very exciting news for his owners.

Amazingly, we still have one share left available in the strapping son of Dylan Thomas who is likely to take in at least one of the spring festivals after running at Kelso.

Once that excitement is over we’ll be all set for the start of the Flat season with new recruit Remarkable set to be one of our first runners of the new season on the Saturday of Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting, quite possibly in the big race itself.

As the clock ticks round towards these big races it’s a timely reminder of the excitement to come as the Sheriff, Remarkable and many other promising younger horses get ready for action.
