Glen and Hollie win good prize
8th January 2020
There was some valuable prize money target on offer at Newcastle today and Glen Shiel secured a big chunk of it for his horse racing syndicate when a comfortable winner of the Class 2 seven-furlong handicap.
Glen Shiel joined us from the horses in training sales from the powerful Godolphin team last year and hasn’t looked back since. The son of Pivotal showed some very strong form after joining Archie Watson, most notably when placed in one of the most valuable Flat handicaps of the entire year on Champions Day at Ascot.
That excellent run marked Glen down as a quality horse to look forward to this year and he emphasised the point in no uncertain terms at Newcastle on Wednesday, travelling well throughout before going on to win well under Hollie Doyle.
Glen and Hollie were gun-barrel straight for pressure on a notably windy afternoon at Gosforth Park and had too much in the tank for the rest of the field where it mattered.
The strapping chestnut is a firm favourite of those in the yard at Saxon Gate and as ever took everything in his stride, posing calmly with his delighted owners in the winners enclosure after the race.
Glen Shiel is the latest big success story for Archie with an ex-Godolphin inmate though he’s someway to go matching the exploits of Snowy Winter who was bought cheaply and sold on later for 725,000gns!
Glen looks a horse to take seriously wherever he goes next and is likely to back at Newcastle next month for another valuable handicap over course and distance.
Proven on turf too, Glen's horse racing syndicate clearly have lots to look forward to this year.
