Hollie Doyle Horse Racing Syndicate Champions Sprint Glen Shiel

Group 1 glory for Glen, Archie and Hollie!

17th October 2020

What a result! Group 1 glory for Glen Shiel, Hollie Doyle and Archie Watson in the Champions Sprint at Ascot.

Success doesn’t come much bigger than Champions Day Group 1 races, one of the biggest days in the Flat racing calendar.

Hambleton Racing’s blueprint has always been to try and buy bloodstock at the lower end of the market and compete at the highest level possible for our horse racing syndicates.

Glen Shiel encapsulates everything Hambleton Racing are about really. Bought for just £45,000, he’s now reached the pinnacle, winning a Group 1 race on Champions Day for his delighted owners.

The success was hardly out of turn either, given Glen finished runner-up in the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup last time out.

Glen made most of the running before showing granite-like toughness and his usual fabulous attitude to repel the best sprinters in Europe in the closing stages under a typically fabulous ride from Hollie Doyle.

At the line there was just a nose in it as Brando, typically expertly prepared by fellow Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan, was produced with a powerful late run to force a tight photo.

There were some fabulous scenes at the track as the result of the photo finish went in Glen Shiel’s favour to create memories that will last a lifetime for Glen’s owners.

Glen Shiel must now be regarded as one of Europe’s very best sprinters after grabbing Group 1 glory for Archie Watson, Hollie Doyle and his proud owners.

An outstanding training performance by Archie by any measure.

Huge congratulations to his horse racing syndicate. We expect there will be a few sore heads tonight!
