Glen wins in Ireland

Group winner Glen

9th August 2020

Classy, tough and with a great will to win, Group winner Glen Shiel is proving a dream to own for his horse racing syndicate.

The thoroughly likeable five-year-old scored his breakthrough Group win at the Curragh today when surging home in typically tenacious fashion under Oisin Orr.

Since joining us from last year’s Goffs UK summer horses in training sale, the £45,000 purchase has not looked back.

As Archie and his team got to know Glen Shiel it became apparent that this quality horse had more speed than his previous connections had appreciated.

Despite having placed in one of the most valuable mile handicaps of 2019, Glen began to show improved form over shorter distances this year.

There’s been no stopping him since, with his Group race place in France and last week’s easy Newcastle Conditions Race win strongly pointing to the fact that Glen Shiel was a genuine Group class sprinter.

He proved the point in no uncertain terms on Sunday, seeing off a quality field in the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint, despite not getting the ideal trip through the race.

His horse racing syndicate clearly have a smart horse on their hands in Group winner Glen Shiel and now have further big, exciting races to look forward to as master trainer Archie Watson plans his next move.
