This year’s Hambleton Racing Owners’ Christmas Lunch proved a great success on Monday as owners from our horse racing syndicates joined us at the Principal Hotel in York to enjoy a Christmas lunch Hambleton style.
Our Christmas social get together is a popular date in our social calendar and it was great to see a record number of owners joining us for this year’s festivities.
As guests enjoyed mulled wine ahead of lunch a great atmosphere developed as owners caught up with friends and new owners to Hambleton were given a warm welcome.
The atmosphere developed further as owners were entertained by an excellent magician who mesmerised guests with some impressive magic, making extra playing cards appear in pockets, drinks come out of the air, not to mention many other memorable tricks that impressed and entertained guests alike.
As you’d expect at a quality hotel like the Principal, the food was of a high standard and well received by guests. Needless to say, turkey and all the trimmings was by far the most popular choice of the day.
As lunch was digested, attention turned to our Christmas quiz, which once again tested owners with a selection of Christmas trivia.
Head racing manager Cosmo took to the microphone to be quiz master for the afternoon and had plenty of fun as he read out the answers to the room.
Some impressive knowledge saw two teams locked at the head of the quiz with the pair also impressing in the tiebreak round with their guesses of the total mileage of a lap of our trainers yards – their two guesses being close to the mark and only differing by a single mile.
The combined wisdom of Alison, Angela, Carol, Christine, Katie, Martin, John and Roger came out on top to earn each of the team a lovely box of chocolates to help celebrate their achievement, while the runners-up also didn’t leave empty handed, with a some festive biscuits coming their way.
After confirming the result, Cosmo wished all our guests a Merry Christmas and happy new year before directing owners to take home an early Christmas present from Hambleton – a 2024 racing calendar.
