Magical’s Listed second
9th November 2021
Magical Spirit produced a career best effort to finish a gutsy second in the Listed Wentworth Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday.
This sparkling effort came hot on the heels of his impressive handicap win over the same course and distance a few weeks earlier as he finished the season strongly for his owners.
The son of Zebedee was a typically shrewd buy by Kevin, having joined us for just €20,000 as a young horse and he has won races for his horse racing syndicate every year since.
Kevin always felt Magical Spirit was a horse that would progress year on year and has been proved right in no uncertain terms, with Magical Spirit winning races every year and improving his form with each year that passes.
Having started with a modest first success at Beverley as a two-year-old, Saturday’s Listed second earned Magical Spirit a career best Racing Post Rating of 109, marking him down as a very talented horse.
A horse who relishes proper cut in the ground, he’ll be back next year for his horse racing syndicate bidding to keep his remarkable record of winning good races every year up for them.
Saturday’s excellent performance suggests Magical won’t be out of place in some very good races next year when conditions are in his favour. If he’s able to find improvement for a fifth straight year, things could get really exciting.
His owners have certainly got plenty to look forward to with their quality sprinter likely to be taking in some big races next year.
In the meantime, our attention turns towards finding the next Magical Spirit, with Kevin earmarking the upcoming Tattersalls December Yearling Sale at Newmarket for our next recruit.
Kevin has a very good record from this sale and is confident we can source another nice horse to enjoy for our owners. Here’s hoping we can find the next Atomic Force or Magical Spirit at Newmarket!
