The excitement for the 2026 Flat season continues to build through the early weeks of the turf fixtures, and owners in some of our recently named juveniles have more reason than most to look forward.
Hambleton’s all-complimentary naming days at the stables are always events to remember as owners get together to meet as a horse racing syndicate for the first time and see their horse in action on the gallops.
In recent weeks we’ve enjoyed some great days at the stables of Kevin Ryan, Karl Burke and David O’Meara, with a really positive feeling across the collective naming mornings.
We’ve named not one but three young horses of late with Kevin Ryan, with Dreamlighter, Kodiak Breeze and Sea Mirage all now named and ready to go forward and represent their owners on the racecourse.
What happens on a Hambleton Racing naming day
As ever for events at Hambleton Lodge, owners were greeted at Kevin’s yard by the Hambleton team who welcomed owners into Kevin’s yard and directed them towards our mobile barista, who provided the usual selection of excellent warm drinks and tasty, finger-licking treats for owners to enjoy.
We encountered differing weather across the mornings with fog greeting owners of Dreamlighter but clear, pleasant mornings the order of things for Kodiak Breeze and Sea Mirage.
Once the horses were saddled up and the riders ready, owners headed onto Kevin’s gallops to watch the action on his private gallops at close quarters.
It came as little surprise to see the youngsters behaving impeccably and showing a notably professional attitude to their work as they exercised at altitude, displaying just how much they had learned during the winter months under Kevin Ryan’s expert guidance.
David O’Meara’s Saxon Law could be a name to remember
At David O’Meara’s Willow Farm, Saxon Law received his racing name, with his owners really impressed by his physique and conditioning at home.
A very impressive physical, he is a horse for later in the campaign but judged on his current physical progress, Saxon Law could well be a name to remember.
In Middleham, owners of Vegasmile enjoyed a lovely morning in the warm spring sunshine at Karl Burke’s stables and were impressed by how their colt carried himself as he exercised on Middleham’s High Moor.
That positive feeling only increased once back inside Karl Burke’s Spigot Lodge stables where Vegasmile behaved impeccably as his owners took the chance to get a picture taken with their two-year-old.
The chance to see your horse up close and personal as Hambleton’s photographer, Louise Pollard, takes those all-important naming day photos is a key part of these days and it’s always lovely to watch owners interacting with their horses.
Why naming days are central to the ownership experience
Once the action is finished within the yard, owners head off to a nearby excellent eatery to enjoy some Hambleton hospitality at a hand-picked venue that we trust to provide a first-class experience.
Whilst enjoying lunch, the winning names are announced by the Hambleton team, which is always a key part of the day, as the racing names, we’ll hopefully be following for many years to come, are confirmed, and the prizes handed out to those owners who’ve done well in the vote.
A feature of these days is the friendly atmosphere as existing owners enjoy getting reacquainted with one another and new owners get the chance to see how Hambleton do things.
In Dreamlighter, Kodiak Breeze, Saxon Law, Sea Mirage and Vegasmile we now have five two-year-olds named and ready to go forth and represent their owners on the racecourse.
With the horses already in winning form this season, and more naming events on the horizon this spring it really is a great time of year!
We look forward to seeing how the class of 2026 perform for their owners this year and beyond.
