Spiorad joins David

27th November 2018

When David O’Meara recommends a horses in training recruit to us it usually pays to take his advice.

Put simply the horses David buys from the sales usually win. They are usually good value. And, crucially, they usually stand their racing really well and give our owners plenty of fun.

Since we started buying from the horses in training sales over a decade ago all but one of our purchases have won. We’ve enjoyed great success shopping on a sensible budget, usually buying expensive horses second hand when ‘top’ yards have decided to make way for the latest batch of exciting yearlings.

A lack of patience is everywhere to be seen in Flat racing at the moment but this trend is very much in the buyers favour at the sales, if your trainer can highlight a horse who’s not been mature enough to do themselves justice to date.

David is particularly adept at this skill. It’s a fact that all of David’s Group and Listed winners have started their careers elsewhere, often joining David at the end of their three-year-old campaigns.

Horses that have started life with Dermot Weld in Ireland and moved on to David have done incredibly well with 12 of 13 winners, and five of that number rated over 100.

You can imagine how delighted we are then to have secured Spiorad for next year with David after he was purchased out of Dermot Weld’s stable.

This lightly raced, late maturing son of Invincible Spirit is bred to need time and really took David’s eye at the sales.

He’s already shown a good level of ability and looks a sure-fire winner for his owners next year after David has had a few months to work his magic on him.
