The race was just seven days later, and at a very different course, but it didn’t stop Gentle Warrior running out a very impressive winner at Chester, following up last week’s improved Haydock win in great style.
The likeable son of Mohaather has always appealed as the sort of horse to blossom when his stamina was tested away from fast ground and the combination of a step up in trip and racing on ground slower than good to firm has made a big difference to him.
Lining up at Chester for his horse racing syndicate just a week after winning a 14-furlong apprentice handicap in great style at Haydock, Gentle Warrior was unpenalised here after a typical bit of intelligent placing by the astute Karl Burke.
Pierre Louis-Jamin was in the saddle this time and had to be alert to hold his position in the early stages as the field jockeyed for position heading into the first bend on the tightest track in the country.
After a few furlongs Pierre managed to get Gentle into a nice rhythm and then held his ground through the contest as the race began to develop.
Heading into the home straight the race had a very open, competitive feel but once Gentle Warrior made his challenge the complexion totally changed.
Tight for room and having to show a good attitude, Gentle Warrior found a run and once seeing the front simply powered clear to win by a wide margin that could have been even bigger had Pierre desired.
Despite taking it easy close home, Gentle Warrior had just under five lengths at the line after handing out a firm and decisive beating to his rivals to secure his second win of the month and prove another success for our buying team’s purchases.
As a son of Mohaather, who’s progeny tend to thrive as they progress, Gentle Warrior looks just the type to find more again. He’s already proved heavy ground holds no fears and might be even better over further.
All in all, following Gentle Warrior’s impressive latest win at Chester, he looks well placed to provide his owners with even more fun moving forwards this autumn.
