Warrior’s first sucess

10th October 2024

The progressive Gentle Warrior recorded a resounding first success at Nottingham yesterday, powering through the autumnal mud to obliterate his rivals in the Class 3 nursery.

The son of Mohaather had nearly 10 lengths in hand at the line as Andrew Elliott guided him clear of his faltering rivals to give us another winner with the excellent Karl Burke team.

Runner-up on his nursery debut at Redcar on his previous start, Gentle Warrior made no mistake this time, relishing both the step up to ten furlongs and heavy ground.

Soon well positioned chasing the hot favourite, Andrew had Warrior nicely in touch throughout and as things started to develop it was clear from some way out the race was going to boil down to a match with the favourite.

That tussle lasted a short while but once on top, Gentle Warrior was dominant and powered clear in a race that advertised both his quality and stamina to claim the valuable prize.

The exciting thing for Gentle Warrior’s horse racing syndicate is he looks to have lots more to come next year, when his stamina is tested more consistently as a three-year-old.

A half-brother to three horses rated over 100, out of a mare won who on debut over 12 furlongs, Gentle Warrior has been very much a work in progress this year and threatens to be a much better horse again as a three-year-old.

With that in mind, it will be fascinating to see how he develops into next year and what sort of level he can reach for his owners.

In the meantime, we can look back on an impressive first win from Gentle Warrior. A horse we’ll likely hear lots more about in 2025.
