What a start from Tempus!
2nd January 2022
2022 started with a bang for owners of Tempus, who shrugged off a long lay off on his first start for Archie Watson to make most of the running and win the one-mile Fast Track Qualifier at Newcastle in great style today.
One of his delighted horse racing syndicate simply said 'What A Start From Tempus!' and it's hard to disagree.
Off the track for no less than 435 days prior to today, Tempus was soon travelling kindly near the head of affairs and picked up really well for pressure when asked to lengthen by Hollie Doyle.
An ultimately impressive and comfortable success certainly impressed Hollie, who was full of praise and enthusiasm for the son of Kingman after the race.
We've got a very proud and well established record at buying shrewdly from the horses in training sales and our record alongside Archie is quite incredible.
Group 1 winner Glen Shiel and Listed winner Outbox have both proved star acquisitions for their owners and have been underpinned by lots of other good quality winners. Hopes are now high that Tempus could be the latest star to join us cheaply before racing successfully at a high level.
A 25,000gns recruit from the Tattersalls Horses In Training Sales after missing a year of action for Roger Charlton, Tempus secured a nice prize today whilst securing his place in the £150,000 final of the All-Weather Championships, back at Newcastle in mid-April.
Before then there'll likely to be more significant prize money to play for as Archie plots his route to the final.
What a start from Tempus! We're absolutely thrilled for his horse racing syndicate and very much looking forward to seeing what comes next for this high-class son of Kingman.
Timeform were certainly impressed, awarding Tempus a provisional rating of 113, which at this stage makes him arguably the leading contender for the final itself.
