Owners’ Day at Tom Clover’s

Our owners are always assured of a warm welcome at Kremlin House in Newmarket, the historic training base of Tom Clover, where along with wife Jackie, Tom has trained some significant winners already.

With the season starting to get some momentum, it was great time for our owners to enjoy a typically informal day in the company of Tom, Jackie and the Hambleton team last week.

On a pleasant late-April morning, Hambleton’s owners gathered at Tom’s historic yard, that has borne witness to some top-class inmates over the years, such as the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe winner Carroll House.

To begin the day, owners enjoyed some excellent catering including tasty treats and coffees as they were joined by Tom and Jackie to discuss the horses, and plans for the morning and beyond.

Watching Hambleton horses on the Warren Hill gallops

Once the riders had jumped aboard the Hambleton horses Tom, Jackie and the Hambleton owners headed off to the historic Warren Hill gallop in Newmarket to watch their horses exercise on a gallop on which some of the greatest thoroughbreds to have ever raced have exercised over the years.

The horses looked in excellent condition as they came up the famous terrain, and Tom expressed himself to be very pleased with all three horses and their progress to date this year.

Pure Moon, runner-up on his first two starts, sat prominently in the exercise along with our horses in training recruit Revelio, a big boy who Tom reported would be all the better for his first few runs of the season.

In behind Churchill’s Spirit caught the eye looking well, with Tom reporting how well she has done physically over the winter as she has matured.

Our owners really enjoyed the chance to see the horses exercise on the Newmarket gallops and to hear the latest thoughts of Tom and Jackie on their progress.

Trainer insights from Tom and Jackie Clover

Once the gallops action was finished, owners returned to Tom’s yard to see their horses at much closer quarters.

In typically relaxed fashion, Tom arranged for the horses to be stood up and talked everyone through their progress to date and also what was expected in the weeks and months ahead.

Owners were then welcome to enjoy a good look around Kremlin House as they got the chance to check out some of the other inmates in Tom’s care, including the 1000 Guineas bound Silenciosa, a yearling shrewdly selected by Tom for just 38,000gns.

Private lunch caps a memorable owners day in Newmarket

Once owners were ready, they headed to off the nearby Three Blackbirds for lunch, where the Hambleton team had arranged lunch for them within the private function room.

This quality pub provided both a great setting and catering for a most enjoyable lunch, as owners and the Hambleton team reflected on an enjoyable morning with the Clover’s in Newmarket.

With the horses pleasing Tom Clover at home and all nearly ready to head to the races in the weeks ahead, we look forward to many more enjoyable days with Tom and Jackie on the racecourse this year.
