There’s not much to beat seeing your horse looking fantastic at the stables, add in some nice refreshments and a lovely lunch and you have the recipe for a very enjoyable day, which is exactly what Able Tasman’s owners enjoyed recently at Archie Watson’s Lambourn stables.
The owners of Able Tasman, a stunning colt by Australia, joined the Hambleton team to name their horse in Lambourn for a day that we always hope will be memorable for all, as their horse takes a step closer to the racecourse.
Owners watch promising colt on the gallops
On a fair and pleasant day in Lambourn owners hydrated with a warm drink or two before getting the chance to see their colt under saddle on the beautiful Lambourn gallops.
Able Tasman impressed his horse racing syndicate as he exercised, looking impressively relaxed and well-conditioned already for a young horse, which was great to see.
Archie Watson’s update on exciting colt
Archie has issued consistent, positive reports about Able Tasman this spring and has been delighted with how the son of Australia is progressing with his training in Lambourn.
As the horses walked back down the gallop to return to the yard, there was plenty of chance for owners to see Able Tasman at close quarters and take a few pictures before heading back to the yard.
Upon returning to the stables, the main man of the day was then washed then off and groomed prior to those all-important and complimentary naming day pictures with owners.
A memorable syndicate day in Lambourn
After receiving some well-deserved attention and posing for pictures in notably relaxed fashion, the striking colt returned to his stables to enjoy a well-deserved lunch whilst his horse racing syndicate headed off to the nearby Queens Arms for drinks and a delicious two course lunch of their own.
A fantastic lunch was well received by all and offered the chance for Cosmo to announce the winning name from the naming vote.
Able Tasman proved a popular winning name for Pat and Sue, long standing owners with Hambleton who also own a share in this year’s unbeaten, three-time winner with Archie, Elements Of Fire.
Pat and Sue received a bottle of champagne in recognition of their efforts for naming their most promising colt, who hopefully can be another really successful horse for them and their fellow syndicate owners.
With Able Tasman looking so well and proving more forward than initially expected, it will be fascinating to see how he progresses under Archie’s care through 2026 and beyond.
Needless to say, the excitement is building for all concerned!
