Archie’s Owners’ Day
10th September 2021
Britain’s Indian summer couldn’t have been better timed for our latest social event – a morning for the owners of our older horses at Archie Watson’s Saxon Gate stables.
Sunglasses and sun hats were in evidence as owners gathered at Archie’s impressive facilities, located within the picturesque Lambourn area.
Whilst owners arrived and relaxed in the yard, they enjoyed complimentary coffees and cakes served by our excellent caterers Angela and Tony, who once again supplied their very popular homemade cloudy lemonade, a refreshing alternative to lattes and cappuccinos in the warm sunshine.
As owners enjoyed refreshments from within the yard, some old friends caught up with one another and new acquaintances were made as owners chatted with the Hambleton team as the horses prepared for action.
The anticipation was building as owners left the yard to head up to the gallops and watch a good number of the team in action on the gallops.
With owners in place, the horses came past the gallery with Archie on hand to highlight each horse as they exercised. Soon after Archie walked owners through each horse in turn and their progress, showing typical encyclopedic knowledge and insight about the team.
With the gallops action complete, the horses headed back to down to the stables where owners were welcome to move around the yard at their leisure and see their horses relaxing back in their stables after their morning exercise.
Archie took owners through our exciting new National Hunt recruits with all three horses catching the eye in the sunshine having done superbly since purchased. Grove Road, pictured in the gallery, still has a few shares left remaining and is clearly a horse Archie likes a lot.
After enjoying some time at the stables, everyone headed off to the hugely popular Pheasant Inn to enjoy lunch and look back on a thoroughly enjoyable morning seeing the horses at Archie’s.
The delicious lunch was much appreciated by all as talk turned to the many winners we’ve enjoyed already this year with Archie, and of course the many winners we’re hoping to enjoy for the rest of the year!
We continue to enjoy being back at the stables with owners and it’s been great to get so much lovely feedback from owners after this week’s event.
The Archie Watson Owners’ Day offered us the chance to show some new owners how Hambleton like to do things and catch up with many existing friends who’ve enjoyed their ownership with us for many years too.
All in all, the day proved a really enjoyable occasion and one that will surely become a firm favourite in our social calendar.
We’re very much looking forward to holding a similar event with Phil Kirby later this month as we look ahead to what promises to be an exciting National Hunt season with Phil.
