There was a fantastic result in Chantilly, France today as Spartan Arrow claimed a famous Listed win for his delighted horse racing syndicate.

The son of Sioux Nation, runner-up on Derby Day in the Epsom Dash, came into his first Listed race in great form and showed his customary early pace during the first few furlongs to lead the quality field.

Looking comfortable through the first half of the race, Hollie asked Spartan to pick up and go forwards approaching the final quarter mile and the response was impressive as her mount willingly picked up to get a break on his rivals.

Heading into the closing stages Spartan stuck on really well to bravely gain the day and claim a famous win from the previously Group 1-placed Havana Cigar.

After the race there were some fantastic scenes in the winners’ enclosure as Spartan Arrow’s horse racing syndicate revelled in the moment of seeing their 17,000gns bargain buy win his first Stakes race and third race in all since arriving late last October from the horses in training sales.

Once unsaddled, Hollie took owners through exactly how she and Spartan Arrow had prevailed and, excitingly, passed on to owners that she feels there’s even more to come from this progressive and likeable five-year-old, who only this morning was entered for the Group 2 King George Stakes at Goodwood early next month.

That race is now likely to be very much on his agenda while a delighted Archie Watson, who has masterfully overseen Spartan Arrow’s progress, also suggested this quality horse will be entered in more high-class sprints before the year is out.

A first Listed win for Spartan Arrow may just be the start then of his adventures in Stakes company, which is an exciting thought for the months and years ahead!
