The success story of bargain buy Mehmento is gathering pace with the three-year-old backing up his early season excellent form with his latest win for Archie Watson.
Second in Greenham at Newbury after two wide margin wins beforehand, the 14,000gns buy made no mistake at Listed level for leading horse racing syndicaye Hambleton Racing, taking out the Surrey Stakes on Oaks Day to the delight of his owners.
Hollie Doyle Guides Mehmento to Listed Race Success
Red-hot jockey Hollie Doyle was always going sweetly on the Archie Watson-trained favourite and the pair made no mistake when going for home in the final quarter mile.
Runner-up at Group 3 level and tried last time out in the French 2000 Guineas, the Mehmas colt was briefly threatened by Legal Attack but quickly eased clear when asked, winning by a ready two and three-quarter lengths as the 11-8 favourite to the delight of her vocal owners.
It’s moments like this that show the essence of syndicate ownership, creating memories that last a lifetime for our owners — and explaining why so many decide to buy racehorse shares with Hambleton Racing while the winner received coverage from Sky Sports Racing, among others.
Archie Reflects on a Standout Performance
Watson said: “I was delighted with him. We were quite worried about the ground because he hadn’t picked up on bad ground in France in the French Guineas, but Hollie said he handled it.
“He was always travelling well on it and at least now we know for the future.”
“He stays the seven very well and I think he’s going to be versatile. I think he’s got the speed for six but on better ground he’ll get a mile as well.”
“He’s shown today what he can do. I think he’s a serious horse. He’s one of the best I’ve trained and I’m delighted for Hambleton Racing who are great supporters and do a great job for their owners.”
What’s Next for Mehmento After His Surrey Stakes Win?
Commenting on the success, Hambleton’s Director Of Racing Simon Turner said “Archie has done a great job with Mehmento who is proving yet another great bargain buy for us. It’s possible he could head to Royal Ascot next. It’s really exciting for everyone involved.”
