It was great to see bargain buy Ancient Myth get his head in front on Saturday at Thirsk.
At just £7,000, the well-bred son of Camelot was one of our cheaper recruits from the horses in training sales but has proved well up to scratch in terms of his ability.
Placed three times in six starts prior to Saturday, Ancient Myth was hardly winning out of turn as he posted his best effort of the season so far to win in great style for his delighted horse racing syndicate.
Settled in rear by Mark Winn, the four-year-old was always travelling well and as the race began to develop was comfortably keeping in touch as others came off the bridle.
As push came to shove Mark delivered Ancient Myth with a telling challenge down the wide outside and once he did get his head in front, there was only ever going to be one winner.
The success of bargain buy Ancient Myth provided another reminder of the value our buying team can source from the sales and having got his head in front now, there must be very chance he can build on this win.
As a yearling price of 425,000gns suggests, he is certainly bred to be a good horse and his fluent win hints there could be a bit more fun to be had for his owners, many of whom were present at Thirsk to enjoy their horse’s first winning moment.
He’s a horse who’s expected to relish softer ground later in the year, and another winner for us with David O’Meara who’s done such a great job for our owners over the years.
We’d like to take this chance to congratulate Ancient Myth’s winning owners. Here’s hoping for more success with him in the weeks and months ahead.
