Tom Clover’s excellent results on the racecourse have been impressing our team for some time. As a result, this year Hambleton have our first horses in training with Tom in Newmarket, based at his historic Kremlin House Stables.
We recently enjoyed our first naming day at Tom’s as we came together to name our pair of two-year-olds with Tom, and it certainly proved a day to remember.
On a beautiful mid-April morning that could have passed for the very height of summer, owners old and new gathered at Tom’s impressive yard to a warm welcome from both Tom and his wife, Jackie, as they enjoyed barista coffees, sausage rolls and the delicious, sweet treats on offer.
Once the riders had saddled up and were mounted aboard the two-year-olds by Churchill and Sea The Moon, owners headed up onto the legendary Warren Hill gallop in Newmarket to catch a glimpse of their new recruits under saddle.
As the sun beamed down on the hill, Tom’s lead horse set the pace closely followed by our two juveniles, who both strode out with plenty of fluency in front of an admiring audience of Tom and their horse racing syndicates.
With the glowing early school reports we have received from Newmarket, it came as little surprise to see our two-year-olds behave like true professionals as they went about their workouts, with owners delighted with what they saw as the youngsters extended up the gallop under Tom’s watchful eye.
With the exercise complete, owners returned to the yard to see their horses at closer quarters as our professional photographer took those much-treasured naming day photos.
Once everyone had enjoyed a good look around the yard and enjoyed the time to chat with Tom and Jackie, owners made their way to the nearby Three Blackbirds for lunch.
The pub came highly recommended by the Clover’s and it certainly lived up to expectations, making for the perfect location for our horse racing syndicates to find out the racing names of their youngsters.
There was a great atmosphere throughout the day, and plenty of laughter too, as old friends got together, and new friendships were formed ahead of what we hope and expect will be a successful time on the track with the impressive Tom Clover team.
It was a day to remember for longstanding owner Pat as his name Churchill’s Spirit was announced the winning name for the filly and also Alan, who came out on top with his name Pure Moon for our two-year-old by Sea The Moon.
With both young horses pleasing Tom at home and expected to be out and racing during the summer, owners in our Tom Clover horse racing syndicates clearly have much to look forward to.
