Strength Of Spirit Newbury

Spirit Strong in Newbury win

There was a great result at Newbury on Thursday as the likeable Strength of Spirit proved strong in the finish to record his second career win at Newbury.

The son of Ulysses has progressed with each start this campaign, and after needing his first run of his career stepped up notably when rattling home at Chester to land a valuable race on his second outing, becoming Hambleton Racing’s sixth straight winning syndicate with Karl Burke in the process.

He stepped up again when runner-up to a horse that cost 550,000gns as a yearling at Beverley next time before lining up at Newbury where he posted another improved effort to win well under Shane Kelly.

Settled in rear by Shane during the early stages, Strength Of Spirit appeared to be travelling with something left past halfway and as the field neared the final furlong it became clear that was definitely the case as they produced a well-timed late run to get on top close home.

Shane was able to take things easy in the closing moments of the race for what ultimately proved quite a comfortable success for this likeable two-year-old.

When Strength Of Spirit joined us the dream for his horse racing syndicate was he might be good enough to line up in the Goffs Million race at the Curragh. As the name suggests, it’s a race that carries a whopping prize fund.

His latest success now has his owners dreaming of a date on the Curragh on the 27th September, where the winner will pocket €500,000, with valuable prizes right down to tenth place.

Before then it’s highly likely we’ll be seeing this progressive son of Ulysses again, with a number of nursery options open to him during August and September.

His next start, and of course that trip to the Curragh, are awaited with great interest!
