Spartan Arrow close home Dundalk horse racing syndicate hollie doyle

Spartan Arrow’s Group 2 Dubai target

Spartan Arrow’s horse racing syndicate are looking forward to Friday as their smart six-year-old lines up in Dubai at Meydan in the Group 2 Blue Point Stakes (3.50), representing trainer Archie Watson and aiming to show his customary speed that has marked his best performances.

The likeable six-year-old is no stranger to racing abroad, having recorded Listed and Group 3 wins in France and Ireland for his horses racing syndicate in 2025, and Archie Watson’s highly skilled team report he’s settled in very well since arriving in Dubai earlier this month.

Archie’s team say Spartan Arrow is training strongly ahead of his first run of 2026, showing his usual speed and turn of foot in his recent work as he prepares for Friday’s valuable contest at Meydan.

Archie Watson’s blueprint: from value buys to big-race performers

The Spartan Arrow story reads like a classic Hambleton Racing and Archie Watson success, as the bargain buy has thrived with a trainer who is no stranger to turning value purchases it into big‑race performance for Hambleton Racing’s owners.

Hambleton Racing legends such as Glen Shiel, Tempus and Outbox have followed a similar path — purchased for relatively modest sums (£45,000 or less) and then competing at the highest level, giving their horse racing syndicates a chance to travel the world to see them run.

Despite costing 380,000gns at the breeze-up sales, we managed to secure Spartan Arrow for just 17,000gns and he was soon identified by Archie as a horse with a lot of class and speed.

Key wins and big-day moments: Wolverhampton, Epsom and the Epsom Dash

Archie’s expectation that he’d improve for the emphasis being on speed was proved spot on as Spartan Arrow secured wins at Wolverhampton and Epsom.

Those early victories earned his owners a trip to Epsom on Derby Day, where Spartan Arrow produced an excellent second under a big weight in the famous Epsom Dash — the race immediately before the Derby itself.

2025 highlights: Chantilly Listed success and the Group 3 Mercury Stakes

A memorable 2025 continued as Spartan Arrow added a Listed success at Chantilly in France, giving his owners a memorable day after crossing the Channel.

He then encountered adverse conditions — finding soft ground and an unfavourable draw against him in Group company at Glorious Goodwood and at York’s Ebor meeting in August — before bouncing back on the all‑weather at Dundalk in October to take the Group 3 Mercury Stakes.

That Group 3 victory capped a strong campaign during which Spartan Arrow took his horse racing syndicate to Derby Day, Glorious Goodwood and York’s Ebor meeting, as well as delivering two big race wins abroad.

Hollie Doyle back aboard for Meydan

Aboard for all his 2025 wins was Hollie Doyle, and the ever‑popular, hugely successful jockey is set to jet out to Dubai to partner Spartan Arrow in Friday’s Group 2 Blue Point Stakes at Meydan.

The Spartan Arrow story is another big success story with the Archie Watson team. Whilst at Epsom in June last year we watched on as Lambourn, a son of Australia, won the Derby.

There could be a thread then to our quality two-year-old in training with Archie by Australia, who’s impressing Archie at home in Lambourn with his early progress.

He’s a very interesting young horse while Spartan Arrow is a smart older horse.

Here’s hoping he can add another chapter to his evolving story in Friday’s Group 2 Blue Point Stakes at Meydan on Friday.

Follow the race and the yard’s updates to see whether Archie and Hollie Doyle can deliver another top performance for his horse racing syndicate.
