Doncaster Owners’ Day

One of our favourite dates in the Hambleton social calendar is our complimentary Doncaster Owners’ Day, held at Doncaster's Lincoln meeting within the impressive main stand.

The day offers us the chance to invite our owners along for an informal day of racing within Doncaster’s great facilities to enjoy the action.

This year’s event was our biggest and, arguably, best yet, with a record number of owners from our horse racing syndicates joining us in the best seats in the house at Doncaster.

We’ve been blown away by all the lovely comments we’ve received from owners who attended and expressed just how much they enjoyed the day.

Somehow it seems the sun always shines on our Owners’ Day and once again the rain clouds had moved away to be replaced by bright sunshine as owners arrived at the racecourse, where they were greeted by the Hambleton team.

In little time at all there was a great atmosphere in the box as guests consulted the table plan, found their tables and began to look forward to the day ahead.

Guests couldn’t fail to notice the impressive display near the entrance of the box, featuring champagne, and an array of gifts and charity prizes, arranged with great skill by Maya and Poppy.

Our Director Of Racing, Simon, soon took to the microphone to offer owners a warm welcome to the box as he introduced the Hambleton team to owners ahead of being joined by northern racing legend Bill Warby to go through the card.

It’s fair to say the card was pretty challenging but thankfully Simon’s strongly advised nap, the wonderfully named Ey Up Maggie, had read the script and landed something of a gamble in the closing race.

Our owners have proved hugely generous over the years with tens of thousands raised for charity and once again generously supported our raffle and charity auction in aid of our long-term charity partner, Racing Welfare.

We were absolutely delighted to raise £4,500 – a new record for us on the day for this most important charity.

The quality of the complimentary catering was as good as we’ve ever seen on the racecourse and proved very popular as owners relaxed and looked ahead to what promises to be another exciting season ahead.

New friendships were formed and established friendships flourished in an enjoyable, informal environment as our horse racing syndicates mixed throughout the afternoon in a great atmosphere.

It was notable just how many owners talked about meeting up with former friends and contacts from past syndicates on a day many new owners got their first taste of what owning a racehorse means with Hambleton.

On behalf of the Hambleton team, we’d like to say a big thank you to all owners, not only for all the kind words about the day, but also for helping make the day the big success it was.

We’ve been inundated with kind messages since Our Doncaster Owners’ Day. It’s great to hear that so many of our owners had a wonderful time and humbling to receive so much genuine gratitude for organising one of our favourite days of the year.

As ever, the challenge is now on to make next year’s event even better!
