Group 3 win at Newmarket

Kevin Ryan has been producing fantastic results for Hambleton’s owners for nearly 20 years and was at it again today as Washington Heights recorded an impressive Group 3 win at Newmarket.

Washington Heights is a hugely popular horse with Kevin and his staff and all of his horse racing syndicate. He’s been brought along with typical skill by Kevin who has such an outstanding record with his sprinters.

An easy Listed winner on his final start last year, Washington has rewarded Kevin’s patience by returning a bigger, stronger horse this year, and the £24,000 purchase headed into battle for his first ever Group race looking a picture.

Soon well placed and going well under a typically cool, well-judged ride from Tom Eaves, Washington continued to travel as well as anything through the race before Tom gave him a bit of breather going into Newmarket’s dip.

He’s always been a horse to give everything, and once Tom asked him to knuckle down he found plenty, galloping on strongly in the final furlong to record a famous Group 3 win at Newmarket and collect the Abernant for Kevin Ryan for an amazing fifth time.

The win is a tremendous result for all concerned and once again proved the point that our buying team have long maintained – it’s possible to find quality horses without breaking the bank.

Washinton Heights really is a case in point, and we’re delighted for each and every owner in his horse racing syndicate that they have such a smart horse on their hands.

There were some fantastic scenes in the winners enclosure afterwards as Washington got a huge reception from his owners, who really enjoyed this special win that will doubtless live long in the memory.

The replay looked better and better the more times it was watched with a glass of champagne and it’s expected some of the celebrations went on long into the night!

Once recovered, Washington’s owners have some exciting days to look forward to, such as the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes at York next month.

For now though, we can relish the fact that Kevin Ryan and Hambleton Racing have another top-class sprinter on their hands.
