Royal Ascot next
16th April 2024
Dyrholaey produced a famous and notable win - for all sorts of reasons – at Newcastle on Tuesday and it will be Royal Ascot next for Archie Watson’s quality breeze-up graduate.
This third win not only maintained Dyrholaey’s perfect race record but also provided the ever-popular Hollie Doyle with her 900th career win, and trainer Archie Watson with his 700th winner – an incredibly impressive achievement for a trainer who started training less than eight years ago.
Hambleton’s record with Archie has been fabulous and has gone from strength to strength since our first runners together in 2019.
Our first runner together was a decent two-year-old and from there we’ve enjoyed some remarkable results.
A consistent flow of winners has been a feature of our partnership that has seen our horse racing syndicates enjoy winners in Doha, France, Ireland and Sweden amongst other places, and has seen owners enjoy success right up to Group 1 level, with Glen Shiel memorably providing Archie and Hollie with their first Group 1 wins.
Archie’s encyclopaedic form and race planning knowledge has been key and now the master of Saxon Gate has Royal Ascot in his sights for Dyrholaey.
The son of City Light is quickly making up into Hambleton’s latest breeze-up star together with Archie Watson. Like our Listed winning breeze-up graduates Maystar and Mehmento, he was purchased by our buying team from the Goresbridge breeze-up sale in late May.
A winning start at Chelmsford promised much, while a wide-margin second win at Wolverhampton marked him down as a quality prospect.
Tuesday’s win confirmed Dyrholaey as a quality horse for his horse racing syndicate as he conceded weight all round and showed a great attitude to remain unbeaten in the valuable novice event, under a great ride from Hollie, who was in typically great form afterwards.
The success prompted Archie to nominate the Palace Of Holyrood House at Royal Ascot as his next target, which is incredibly exciting news for Dyrholaey’s horse racing syndicate.
The fact he is proving to be such a good horse is of no great surprise as our record with breeze-up horses with Archie has seen our owners enjoy many quality horses together.
The data behind his breeze was exceptional which meant he was a must buy for our buying team if affordable, and thankfully he was. The rest, as they say, is history.
Our team will not be resting on their laurels though, the 2024 Goresbridge breeze-up catalogue has just landed in the office so the work starts now trying to find our next star from a sale we have such a fantastic record at.
In the meantime we can all look forward with excitement to Royal Ascot with Dyrholaey!
