What a fantastic sight to see Magical Spirit winning easily on his first run of the year at Doncaster last night for the Kevin Ryan team.
Magical, an eight-year-old bargain breeze-up buy, arrived in May 2018 and has been a fantastic horse for his horse racing syndicate ever since, winning races in all but one of his campaigns and taking his owners to some great tracks along the way.
His latest win – the eighth of his career – was achieved in striking style and took his earnings through the £100,000 barrier, not bad a for a horse who cost just €20,000 from the breeze-up sales!
As you might imagine, as our longest serving horse, Magical Spirit is a very popular member of the team with everyone at Hambleton Lodge.
The way Kevin has managed this horse has been a fine advert for his training skills and the care and attention his excellent team show with looking after all the horses at home.
As Magical started jig jogging and pulling to be let go once Tom Eaves had been jocked up in the paddock, it was clear to see how enthusiastic he was to get on with his job last night, which had his horse racing syndicate hoping for the best as their pride and joy cantered to the start.
Tom had intended to be a little closer to the pace when initially planning out how to ride the race, but such was Magical’s exuberance once the stalls opened, he decided to ride a more patient race as the pair attempted to win the Class 3 handicap for the second year running.
Once settled, Magical Spirit caught the eye travelling ominously well and once Tom delivered his challenge there was only going to be one result as our sprightly eight-year-old pulled clear of his 15 rivals to win in great style.
This marvelous horse received a great reception as he headed back into the winners enclosure, with many Doncaster regulars all too familiar with his love of racing on Town Moor. It’s fair to assume a number of the course regulars had supported Magical in the betting ring, which perhaps explained why his win was just so popular!
This horse has given his horse racing syndicate some fabulous moments over the years, and after such a sparkling start to the campaign looks set for another good year of sport.
He’s a hugely popular horse with the Hambleton team and we can’t wait to see him out and in action again!
